Aston Villa have made an offer to Burnley to sign defender Ben Gibson on loan with a view to a permanent deal, according to Sky sources.
Sky Sports News understands the original offer is or a temporary deal but Villa want to include a clause which would make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Gibson signed for Burnley in a £12m deal from Middlesbrough last summer but has only made one Premier League appearance since.
The club's chief executive Christian Purslow has spoken publicly of his reluctance to take players on loan, only for them to then return to their parent club.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche has said he does not want to sell any players in his squad in the January transfer window.
Elsewhere, Aston Villa have had a loan offer for Leicester defender Christian Fuchs turned down and the club are willing to let Scott Hogan leave the club with Bristol City and Sheffield United both showing interest.
