Manchester City started their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Adelaide United behind closed doors.

Academy player Brandon Barker, 18, scored his first senior goal for the club before Argentine midfielder Bruno Zuculini made sure of the win late on.

Manuel Pellegrini, who picked a first half and second half XI including Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas, Gael Clichy and Vincent Kompany, nearly saw his side behind early on as Sergio Cirio and Bruce Djite came close for the Australian team.

Nasri then hit the crossbar on 11 minutes from Toure's fine through ball, before Zuculini forced a terrific save from Adelaide goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic in the second half.

City broke the deadline on 62 minutes through Barker, who smashed the ball across Galekovic after a good run from the left.

Zucilini grabbed the second with six minutes remaining, tapping in at close range from Gael Clichy's cross.

City's next tour game is against Melbourne City on Saturday, kicking off at 8am British time and live on Sky Sports 1 HD.

New £49m signing Raheem Sterling will join his new team-mates after flying out to the Gold Coast on Wednesday.
