Boro boss Aitor Karanka said he did want to strengthen his squad but refused to be drawn on potential new arrivals.

He said: "I don't want to speak about any offers because in the summer we were told we were going to spend £25m but nobody arrived apart from David Nugent. So I prefer to stay calm and when February 2 comes, then we can talk about the players who are here at Middlesbrough.
