Queens Park Rangers have received a £6m offer from Middlesbrough for forward Matt Phillips, according to Sky sources.
West Brom, Newcastle and Bournemouth have been linked with the Scotland international this month.
The 24-year-old, who has two caps for his country, has scored five goals in 27 league appearances for QPR this season.
Charlie Austin left Loftus Road for Southampton in a £4m deal last week while Middlesbrough have also been linked with Fulham forward Ross McCormack.
Sky sources also understand the Championship leaders have made a second bid of £8m plus striker Kike for McCormack, who joined Fulham for £11m in July 2014.
Boro boss Aitor Karanka said he did want to strengthen his squad but refused to be drawn on potential new arrivals.
He said: "I don't want to speak about any offers because in the summer we were told we were going to spend £25m but nobody arrived apart from David Nugent. So I prefer to stay calm and when February 2 comes, then we can talk about the players who are here at Middlesbrough.
"I prefer to keep working and focus on the game on Saturday because the club knows the players that I want."
