Reading are in talks with Norwich over a loan deal for striker Nelson Oliveira, Sky Sports News understands.
The 27-year-old Portugal international has not played a single first-team game for the Canaries so far this season.
Oliveira's contract at Carrow Road does not expire until 2020, having signed a four-year deal from Benfica in 2016.
He could now join compatriot Jose Gomes, who took over the Royals as manager in December, until the end of the season.
Manager Gomes spoke of his admiration for Oliveira over the weekend as Reading lost 2-1 at Derby.
"I know this player very well," he said. "In Portugal, at one time, everybody thought he could be our first striker in the national team, but this season he's not playing."
