Sunderland have come to an agreement with defender Papy Djilobodji, who was initially sacked by the club in September.
Djiolobodji, who spent all of last season on loan at French side Dijon, refused to show up for pre-season training at League One Sunderland, who have suffered successive relegations.
When the centre-back did eventually return - after a prolonged period of absence - he "comprehensively failed" a fitness test, resulting in Sunderland terminating his contract.
But the Black Cats have now reached an accord with the Senegal international, who joined Sunderland in an £8m switch from Chelsea in 2016.
A brief Sunderland statement read: "Sunderland AFC has reached an agreement with Papy Djilobodji for his departure, his employment having terminated on 21 September 2018."
