Wigan have turned down four separate bids for striker Will Grigg from Sunderland, says manager Paul Cook.
Sunderland made their first bid for Grigg on January 9 and have since made three more unsuccessful offers, with Latics boss Cook expecting them to come back again.
"I think Sunderland have made four bids for Will, but the fact we've rebuffed four bids, you can clearly see our intent is not to sell players," he said.
"Unfortunately, everybody is expecting them to come back, but we want to strengthen and keep our better players."
Grigg helped fire the Latics to promotion in Sky Bet League One last season, but has managed to score only four goals in 17 appearances so far this campaign.
The 27-year-old suffered an ankle injury during last week's defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, but the problem is not as bad as initially feared, and the Black Cats are still interested in a deal.
Sunderland manager Jack Ross confirmed his interest in Grigg on Monday, and said he believes a deal can be reached.
Sunderland's attempts to sign Grigg come as youth product Josh Maja, Sky Bet League One's second top scorer with 14 goals, is on the verge of joining Bordeaux for a deal that could rise to £3.5m, Sky Sports News understands.
Maja turned down the offer of a new contract at the Stadium of Light two weeks ago, and Sunderland are resigned to losing him.
