Ipswich winger Gwion Edwards has been called up to the Wales international squad for their Nations League clash with the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.

Uncapped Edwards joins Ryan Giggs' side to provide support upfront as Gareth Bale continues to struggle with muscle fatigue.

The 25-year-old has played at both U19 and U21 level for his country, earning a senior call-up in October 2014, but he failed to make an appearance. He will hope to earn his first senior international cap on Tuesday.

Edwards joined Sky Bet Championship side Ipswich this summer on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee after a successful spell at Peterborough, scoring nine goals in 41 games in League One.

Wales will hope for a better performance against the Republic of Ireland after they struggled without talisman Bale in a 4-1 loss at home to Spain on Thursday. Giggs has admitted Bale will likely miss Tuesday's game as well.
