Rovers turn down offer for midfielder

Preston North End have seen a bid for midfielder Martin Woods rejected by Championship rivals Doncaster Rovers. Skysports.com revealed earlier in the transfer window that new Preston boss Darren Ferguson was keen to take Woods to Deepdale. However, Doncaster have confirmed on their official website that an offer from the Lilywhites has been turned down on transfer deadline day. Woods has scored five goals in 20 appearances for Rovers this season and is under contract at the Keepmoat Stadium until 2011. With Doncaster determined to hang on to the former Leeds United youngster, Ferguson must now weigh up whether to increase his offer or look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements. Ferguson has previously expressed an interest in signing Paul Coutts from his former club Peterborough United and is also keen on Blackburn Rovers winger Keith Treacy. Meanwhile, Doncaster midfielder Robbie Clark has joined UniBond Northern Premier League side Brigg Town on loan until the end of the season.
