Northampton are looking appoint an experienced League Two manager as quickly as possible, Sky Sports News understands.
Former Carlisle boss Keith Curle is currently the favourite with the bookmakers to replace Dean Austin, who was sacked on Sunday following Northampton's 4-0 thrashing at Mansfield on Saturday.
Ex-Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer and Kevin Nolan, who was last in charge at Notts County, are also short in the odds.
Northampton are fourth bottom in League Two after just one win and five losses from their first 10 games, including three defeats in their last four.
Assistant manager Andy Todd took training on Monday and will remain in charge of the team on an interim basis, with a home game against Bury next up.
