Rangers pair Steven Gerrard and Scott Arfield honoured after four wins from four in April

Rangers duo Steven Gerrard and Scott Arfield have been named the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership Manager and Player of the Month for April.

Rangers are unlikely to overhaul Celtic at the top of the table but have kept the race alive in April with a string of impressive results.

Rangers kicked off the month with a 3-0 defeat of Hearts, followed up with a 3-0 victory at Motherwell and went on to add another defeat of Hearts (3-1 at Tynecastle) and a 2-0 home win over Aberdeen last weekend.

Midfielder Arfield has scored four times in the month, including a hat-trick in the defeat of Motherwell - and he becomes the first Rangers man to take the Player of the Month award this season.

Gerrard becomes the first Rangers boss to take the manager of the month prize since they returned to the Premiership in 2016.

He said: "I think they should rename the manager's award to coaching team of the month, because I've had great support round the clock from my staff.

"So if we could change the name from an individual award, that would be very nice.

"Scotty certainly deserves his, because he's been by far the best player in the league over the last four to five weeks, scoring goals and creating chances.

"It's not just that. The work he does off the ball for the team, emptying the tank on a daily basis, makes him an absolute pleasure to coach."

Arfield's form has been so impressive that he has been linked with a move away in the summer.

But Gerrard said: "I don't want to lose Scott.

"It doesn't surprise me that clubs are interested and every single player has a price, but he knows very well I want him to stay here at Rangers."
