Eredivisie: Feyenoord open up eight-point lead with Willem II win

Feyenoord extended their advantage at the top of the Eredivisie after beating Willem II 1-0 on Saturday.

Midfielder jens Toornstra headed home Eljero Elia's 32nd-minute cross for his seventh goal of the season as Feyenoord moved eight points clear of second-placed Ajax, who play at Utrecht on Sunday.

Greek goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou made several telling saves for the visitors, but Feyenoord, beaten only once in the Eredivisie this season, extended their unbeaten league run to seven matches.

Mathias Pogba, brother of Manchester United midfielder Paul, rescued a point for Sparta Rotterdam in their 1-1 draw at AZ Alkmaar.

The Sparta striker headed an 86th-minute equaliser six minutes after stepping off the bench to cancel out Derrick Luckassen's opener for AZ early in the second half.

Vitesse Arnhem moved up one place to seventh after drawing 1-1 at Groningen.

Navarone Foor levelled for the visitors in the 49th minute after Kelvin Leerdam's own goal had given Groningen an early lead.

PEC Zwolle climbed out of the bottom three with their first win in eight league matches as they won 2-1 at Den Haag.

Gervane Kastaneer headed home from a corner to give Den Haag an early lead, but Zwolle hit back through Kingsley Ehizibue seven minutes before the break and Nicolai Brock-Madsen struck a 56th-minute winner.
