Tottenham have signed Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on a season-long loan, with the option to make it a permanent deal.

The 26-year-old Italian becomes Spurs' first signing of the summer under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and is expected to challenge Hugo Lloris for the number one spot.

Spurs have an option to buy Gollini on a permanent deal for £13m if he plays a certain number of games in the upcoming season, according to Sky in Italy.

In a short message to Tottenham fans via Twitter, Gollini said: "Hello Spurs fans! I am so happy to be here. I can't wait to see you in the stadium and I hope that we are going to have a magic season."

Gollini, previously part of the Manchester United youth system, has senior experience in English football having made 20 appearances for Aston Villa in the Championship on loan from Verona in the 2016/17 season.

Since joining Atalanta in a permanent deal in June 2018, Gollini has made 108 appearances in all competitions, including 10 appearances in the Champions League over the last two seasons.

He played 32 appearances last season as Atalanta finished third in Serie A and were runners-up in the Coppa Italia.

Gollini made his senior debut off the bench in a Euro 2020 qualifying match against Bosnia & Herzegovina in November 2019.

His arrival comes after Paulo Gazzaniga left the club at the end of his contract on June 30 and he joins former England international Joe Hart and Lloris in Spurs' goalkeeping ranks.

Tottenham, who qualified for the Europa Conference League last season, begin the new Premier League campaign at home against champions Manchester City on August 15, live on Sky Sports.

Spurs close to finalising swap deal for Gil

Tottenham are close to finalising a swap deal with Sevilla that will see them sign winger Bryan Gil and Erik Lamela move to Spain.

Along with allowing Lamela to join Sevilla, Spurs will also pay the La Liga side £21.6m for Gil, according to Sky in Italy.

The 20-year-old was not part of the Spain squad that made the semi-finals of Euro 2020, but he does have three caps for his country and is part of the team competing at the Tokyo Olympics.

Gil spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Eibar, where he scored four goals and registered three assists as the club were relegated from La Liga.

He also spent time on loan with Leganes after coming through the youth system at Sevilla, for whom he has played 21 times.

Lamela is set to sign a three-year contract with the Spanish side, bringing to an end his eight-year spell with Spurs.
