Fiona Brown scored what could be a vital away goal for Glasgow City as they lost 2-1 at Zurich in the Women's Champions League round-of-16 tie.

Fabienne Humm beat the offside trap and lobbed goalkeeper Lee Alexander to give the Swiss side the lead with the game just 10 minutes old.

Alexander than saved a one-on-one effort from Barla Deplazes before Morgan Marlborough blasted over the bar from seven yards after a Glasgow corner.

Glasgow goalkeeper Alexander capped a good performance with an outstanding penalty save to deny Marina Keller just before half-time and Brown lashed home an unstoppable equaliser after 52 minutes.

But Zurich had the final say, Julia Stierli heading home a winning goal from close range shortly afterwards.

Glasgow finished the game with 10 as full-back Nicky Docherty was sent off for a second bookable offence with 14 minutes remaining in an incident-filled match at the Stadion Letzigrund.

Although beaten, the Scots will be confident of their chances of progressing to the quarter-finals in Wednesday’s second leg at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie.
