Simon Bassey leaves coaching role at AFC Wimbledon

First-team coach Simon Bassey has departed AFC Wimbledon by mutual consent after 17 years at the club.

The 43-year-old initially joined as a player when the club was formed in 2002, before working his way through the backroom ranks at the club from 2004. He was part of five promotions with the club.

He helped guide the Dons through non-league and then up from League Two into League One in 2016.

In his 14 years as a coach at the club Bassey spent one season as reserve team coach and the remaining time as a first-team coach.

He also had two spells as caretaker manager in 2012, and 2018 following the departure of Neal Ardley in November.
