Gillingham climbed to second in League Two with a 1-0 win at Notts County which came courtesy of Simeon Jackson's 17th goal of the season. The 21-year-old striker was in the right place to turn and finish from an Andy Barcham flick following a Gillingham throw-in in the 58th minute. It extended the Gills' unbeaten run to eight while County have now lost four of the last five. Despite their recent poor run, the Magpies gave as good as they got in a hard-fought match, with Mike Edwards seeing his goal-bound header from a Matt Hamshaw corner cleared off the line by Gills skipper Barry Fuller. Hamshaw then saw his mis-hit cross cannon off the far post with goalkeeper Simon Royce beaten, while former Gillingham striker Delroy Facey also missed two good chances. Jackson could have scored in the first half but skied his close-range effort over from a low John Nutter cross. County had a further 10 corners but failed to truly test Royce in the Gillingham goal.
