Team news and stats ahead of Republic of Ireland vs Wales in the Nations League live on Sky Sports (kick-off 2pm).

The Republic of Ireland have missed out on the chance to play in Dublin at the Euro 2020 finals following a heart-breaking penalty shootout defeat in Slovakia.

Stephen Kenny was left to rue the cruelty of football as the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2020 dream was torn apart after Alan Browne's spot-kick was saved and Matt Doherty's came back off the crossbar.

The Republic now face Nations League clashes with Wales and Finland before the players return to their clubs, but they headed back to Dublin wondering what might have been following the late reshuffle.

Highlights of the international friendly between England and Wales

Five Republic of Ireland players have been stood down from today's game with Wales for coronavirus-related reasons, the FAI has announced.

David McGoldrick has been ruled out due to an abductor injury. The Sheffield United forward led the line superbly in Ireland's shootout defeat to Slovakia in their Euro 2020 playoff semi-final.

Brighton forward Connolly and Norwich striker Idah are out of the Nations League games against Wales on Sunday and Finland on Wednesday after a second confirmed Covid-19 case rocked the camp hours before the Slovakia penalty shootout loss.

Sean Maguire and Daryl Horgan have been called into the Ireland squad as replacements. Crystal Palace midfielder James McCarthy is being assessed after he came off holding his hamstring in Bratislava.

Having missed the England game due to coronavirus protocols, Aaron Ramsey has been training with Juventus and is available for Wales. But Gareth Bale is out of both matches, while Joe Allen and Hal Robson-Kanu are also absent.

Striker Kieffer Moore is a major doubt after suffering a toe injury in the England defeat meaning Tyler Roberts may lead the line. David Brooks, Harry Wilson and Daniel James are in line for recalls after the trio were missing from the 3-0 loss.

Stephen Kenny says the Republic of Ireland deserved to go through in normal time against Slovakia, but his side lost out on a place in the European Champions by penalty shootout

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny: "I don't know whether you can say Thursday was bad luck, but the players didn't deserve to lose the game. They gave absolutely everything of themselves.

"Their work-rate was phenomenal and their determination to try to win tonight and get to the final was very evident. It's just a cruel way to lose on penalty kicks.

"But I thought we defended really well all night, just that one block that Shane Duffy made off the line, we created some good chances and some good play.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs says he was disappointed with the goals that his side gave away to England in their 3-0 defeat at Wembley

"Some of the forward play - David McGoldrick was absolutely outstanding at times, so I'm really, really disappointed for the players, really, because they deserved better."

Wales manager Ryan Giggs: "There was a lot of good things [from the England game]. We started the game really well, and the things we worked on, we did well. The pressing was good, and we were confident on the ball, which you have to be against quality teams.

"Then, we learned that, if you switch off or give bad goals away, you're going to get punished. Against lesser teams, you might get away with it. Against the good teams with quality, you're not going to get away with it."
