Rochdale confirmed their League One status for another season after a 1-0 win over strugglers Southend at the Crown Oil Arena.
Ian Henderson got the only goal of the game to move Rochdale up to 14th place, but Southend have now dropped to 20th, with only goal difference separating them from the relegation zone.
Aaron Wilbraham had a good chance for the hosts after 16 minutes but he headed wide from 10 yards out, while Rochdale goalkeeper Josh Lillis was forced to tip Taylor Moore's attempt over the crossbar at the other end.
Rochdale were quickly out of the blocks after the interval and they were awarded with a goal when Henderson netted on 53 minutes. Ethan Hamilton's initial shot was saved, but Henderson was on hand to slot home the rebound from close range to make it 1-0.
Southend thought they equalised late on when Stephen McLaughlin had the ball in the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside and Rochdale held on to earn a well-deserved victory.
