Striker Kevin van Veen is back in the Scottish Premiership with Kilmarnock. Will he replicate the form that made him a Motherwell hero last season?

Kilmarnock have signed Kevin van Veen on loan, beating off competition from St Mirren and Motherwell for the former Fir Park striker.

The Dutchman, who left Motherwell in the summer, moves to Killie until the end of the season.

Motherwell tried to re-sign the 32-year-old, but were unable to compete financially.

St Mirren were also in talks, but he has opted to move to Rugby Park until the end of the season.

Van Veen was a revelation for the Steelmen last season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions to earn a place in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year and a player of the year nomination.

He scored five goals in 15 games for Groningen in the Eerste Divise.

Sky Sports' Kris Boyd said he was impressed with his former club's transfer dealings:

Also See:

"The best striker they've had in five years, since someone retired!

"He did really well for Motherwell last season so it's a great bit of business for Kilmarnock.

"Derek McInnes was looking for a striker in the transfer window and he's managed to bring in Greg Stewart as well for competition with Marley Watkins and Kyle Vassell.

"Motherwell are in a good position going forward, fourth in the table right now and they'll be looking forward to the remainder of the season.

"Derek McInnes has done really well there."
