Aston Villa are hoping to end their search for a new manager before the end of the international break.
The club sacked Steve Bruce on Wednesday after a run of just one win in their last ten matches and a shortlist for his replacement is already being drawn up for consideration by majority owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
Villa's new chief executive Christian Purslow, who joined the club in August, is leading the process which they hope to have concluded before welcoming Swansea to Villa Park on October 20.
Former Villa striker Dwight Yorke has applied for the job, while Mick McCarthy said he would welcome the chance to speak to the club.
David Moyes is the current bookmakers' favourite, ahead of former Arsenal forward Thierry Henry and Brentford's Dean Smith.
Kevin MacDonald, formerly the head of the academy, will take caretaker charge for the trip to Millwall on Saturday but wants to return to his usual role once a new manager is brought in.
Villa are also looking to bring in a sporting director but the search for Bruce's replacement is likely to be prioritised.
