Roberto Martinez says his assistant Thierry Henry will be in the dugout for Belgium v Switzerland on Friday, but refused to confirm his future beyond that match.

According to Sky sources, the former Arsenal striker is edging closer to becoming Monaco's next manager, with talks between the two parties at an advanced stage, despite Belgium's Nations League clash on Friday.

Henry held talks with Aston Villa about their becoming their new manager, but Sky sources say he turned down the role in favour of Monaco as the Sky Bet Championship side opted for Brentford's Dean Smith on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old is favourite for the top-flight job in France and has a strong connection with the Ligue 1 club after starting his professional career with the principality side.

"I think it's nothing new for us," Belgium head coach Martinez said. "Every time there is a vacancy, there is a report on Thierry going.

"Nothing changes, apart from that Monaco is one of those clubs where he has a link. Thierry started at Monaco.

"So, I can guarantee you he will be on the bench tomorrow. The only thing that matters is preparing for the Switzerland game tomorrow."

When asked if he would stand in Henry's way, and if the ex-striker will still be Belgium's assistant manager on Tuesday when the nation host the Netherlands, Martinez added: "I think you'll have to ask me then.

"The only thing that matters is the game against Switzerland. After the game, we can talk about whatever is important after that."

Leonardo Jardim was sacked as Monaco head coach on Thursday with the club 18th in the league, having won just one of their opening nine matches, despite leading them to the Champions League semi-finals in the 2016/17 season.

Belgium v Switzerland is live on Sky Sports Football at 7.45pm on Friday via the Red Button.
