RAFA: NEWCASTLE'S FUTURE, NOT JUST MINE
DYCHE: PERFORMANCE GOOD
RAFA: FUTURE BIG FOR NEWCASTLE, NOT JUST ME
"When we talk about my
future, talk about what can happen, we are talking about the future of Newcastle
United Football Club, it’s not Rafa Benitez in the end.
"If we sign the
players, I will not take the players home with me, so they will stay there. And
if they are good players, they can be the future also. It’s a question of wait,
go to January and see what we can do, and now is the time to enjoy.
"I am really
pleased in England, pleased with the fans behind me."
DYCHE: PERFORMANCE GOOD, RESULT BAD
"There were some moments of real good play. Looking beyond
the result, because it’s a season’s work, then we are starting to come back to
what we think we can be. But of course, you’ve got to get a result, that’s the
business we are in.
"We have to earn the right, nobody gives you anything in
football, we know that, performance levels aside.
"At the moment I think the team are beginning to look like
what we can be, but we have to get the right side of the margins because it is
tight for teams like us. Landing on those right sides is so, so important."
GINOLA: TENSE FINISH
BURNLEY 1-2 NEWCASTLE
FT: Relief for Newcastle, they survive the late onslaught!
What a game at Turf Moor, in fairness, and Newcastle have their first away win of the season, their third on the trot to put further daylight between them and the relegation zone!
90+5: MISS! Charlie Taylor takes, it's on Vokes' head... but he can't get over it!! It's over the bar!!
90+5: Danger in the last minute! Ritchie has had a socker, and takes out Lennon on the right flank. Yellow card, and a chance to load the box!
90+4: Joe Hart is up for a free-kick! Jack Cork crosses, but it's terrible. Newcastle break, Perez has a go from 50 yards, but it's blocked well by Mee!
90+2: CLOSE! Hearts in mouths. Vokes gets a heel to a Wood knock-on, but it flies just past the post!
Last touch came off a Newcastle player, in fact, but the corner comes to nothing!
90+1: Four minutes added on at Turf Moor.
90: Late change for Newcastle. Hayden is on, replacing Kenedy. The Brazilian makes a slooooowww walk off the pitch. Burnley fans aren't happy.
WATCH: JOSELU HITS POST
89: Kenedy picks up a beauty of a wide ball by Ki. He gets into the box, shoots, and Taylor takes one in the, erm, midriff. Ouch.
86: Burnley seeing plenty of the ball, but Newcastle are getting more and more men behind the ball. Big, big few minutes for both sides' seasons
84: Barnes' first telling contribution is routine for Dubravka. A 30-yard half volley, tame and easily collected.
82: Double change for Burnley. Defour comes off for Hendrick, and Brady makes way for Barnes. Here we go...
80: OFF THE POST! So nearly game, set, match for Newcastle!
It's brilliant from Perez, who picks it up 40 yards out and slips in Joselu. He has just Hart to beat, but it slams off the bottom of the post!
Great move... could that miss come back to haunt Newcastle too?!
78: Corner and some respite for Newcastle. Ritchie crosses, but it's poor, and Lowton clears at the near post.
76: CHANCE! Chance after chance for Burnley! Lennon cuts the ball back well for Wood, and on the half volley, 10 yards out, he must do better.
He slams it well over the bar, and Turf Moor has its head in its hands.
76: Taylor's cross is cleared poorly by Ritchie, straight to Brady on the edge.
He has a go right-footed, his weaker foot, and it flies a few yards wide of Dubravka's right-hand post.
74: Yedlin steps across Taylor quite nastily, but doesn't go in Anthony Taylor's book! Still no yellows in this one... quite a surprise.
72: CHANCE! Another Chris Wood chance! Brady dinks on into the box and it somehow falls to Wood. He's stretching, has Yedlin and Dubravka closing in to block, and Yedlin gets in the way superbly!
The corner then comes to nothing.
71: Change for Newcastle. Rondon off, Joselu on. A straight swap, it seems.
69: CHANCE! Great opportunity for Wood! The ball flies up in the air from Fernandez in the box. Vokes takes it down well, it falls to his partner Wood nicely in space, but he slams it down the throat of Dubravka!
He should be side-footing that either side of the Newcastle goalkeeper!
67: Brady peppering the box with crosses from both flanks, but Newcastle still dealing with all of them. Defences on top in this second period.
64: Defour looks to thread one through to Vokes in behind, but Fernandez stops him reaching it. He's been superb, the Newcastle defender.
61: Burnley on the front foot at the minute, but Newcastle defending well. Kenedy is back there at full back to dispossess Taylor, but Newcastle can't push out.
59: Brady with a free-kick delivery from very deep, left-footed, but Ki is there to clear away on the edge of the box. Poor cross.
57: In the lead-up to that Ritchie sitter, it looked like Taylor hauled down Yedlin as he went to shoot.
There was no signal from referee Anthony Taylor for advantage, and technically it should be a penalty, but that was advantage enough for Ritchie I'd say?!
55: Ritchie finds Kenedy on the edge. He takes a touch, it lifts up on the half volley nicely, but he smashes it high and wide. He gets it all wrong.
WATCH: MISS OF THE SEASON?
You've got to see it to believe it. Wow.
51: I'm trying to think of excuses for Ritchie. He was at a slight angle, level with the post, and had Lowton beside him, but he shouldn't be missing from there. It's a shocker.
49: WHAT A MISS! Oh my, how has this not gone in? If this doesn't go down as miss of the season, I'll be shocked.
Yedlin somehow finds himself behind the defence and through on goal at the right angle after Brady's mistake. He pokes it goalwards, Hart saves, but it falls to Ritchie far post.
Ritchie is two yards out, with the entire goal to aim at, and he hits the side-netting! How, how, how has he not scored?!
Watch it in a few minutes here...
47: Matt Ritchie digs out a cross from the left, and for a second it looks to catch Hart out, but he readjusts and collects at his near post.
46: Back under way in the second half at Turf Moor.
HIGHLIGHTS: BURNLEY 1-2 NEWCASTLE
HT: That's the half! It started so poorly for Burnley, but ended in much better fashion.
Vokes' superb header has pegged back Newcastle, who had taken a 2-0 lead early on. Great game, and it's perfectly set up for the second half.
45+1: SAVE! Burnley cause all sorts of issues in the box again! It bounces around, with Vokes on the ball but his back to goal, before Woods curling effort is tipped wide by Dubravka!
45: SAVE! Nearly a leveller before half time!
Great link up between the Burnley front two as Vokes heads down a long diagonal. Woods hits it first time 12 yards out, and Dubravka has to tip it over as it header for the top left corner!
WATCH: VOKES' SUPERB HEADER
42: Terrific header, but if you're scoring from there, there is something missing defensively. Rafa will be livid they haven't seen this two-goal cushion through to half time. They were in total control.
GOAL! BURNLEY 1-2 NEWCASTLE (Vokes, 40)
Oh my, what a header from Sam Vokes, and that alters everything!
It's route one at its finest. Mee has it just inside Newcastle's half, and he drills one long to Vokes in the box. The striker has no right to score a header from here, around 17 yards out, but he gets up above Clark and loops one over Dubravka!
Fine header, and life in Turf Moor at last!
BURNLEY 0-2 NEWCASTLE
37: Ritchie wins Newcastle's fourth corner of the game. It's worked well to Kenedy, 25 yards out, and his fierce left-footed shot goes high and wide of Hart's goal.
35: Brady crosses right footed from the left, but Fernandez is there to clear. He's had a very good game so far.
Meanwhile, Newcastle's aerial prowess...
33: Ritchie's left-wing cross falls to Yedlin at the far post. He dwells and crosses himself, but Mee is there to head clear ahead of Diame!
30: Newcastle fans making a huge amount of noise in the away end. The kick-off was delayed, and they'll be getting back home in the early hours, but they're likely to be returning with three points at this rate...
28: Newcastle now knocking it about confidently around the back line. They look comfortable with this lead now, and Burnley are no doubt shell-shocked.
