Plymouth's in-form striker Freddie Ladapo scored two second-half goals to secure a 2-1 home win over Fleetwood.
Ladapo swept in from the left for his first in the 72nd minute - a minute after hitting the post with a thumping strike - and then headed home from a 81st-minute David Fox corner.
Paddy Madden pulled a goal back for the visitors with a superbly-taken 84th minute strike into the corner but it was not enough to deny the hosts.
Town keeper Alex Cairns excelled with a string of first-half saves to keep the score goalless.
His best stop came in the final minute of the first half as he manged to stretch full length to keep out Niall Canavan's deflected header.
Just before, the keeper had palmed over a rising drive from Jamie Ness, following a cut back cross from Joel Grant.
Cairns also denied Fox with a full-length save as the midfielder's 30-yard strike looked destined for the bottom corner.
Madden had Fleetwood's best first-half effort although he was leaning back when he fired over.
He also crossed from the right for Jason Holt to send a header goalwards, saved by Matt Macey.
